Young Protagonists Transforming the Neighborhood: Active Citizenship at the Padre Pio Community Center

The transformation of the world begins closer than we imagine—it begins in the neighborhood, on the streets where we live, and in the realities we know firsthand. It was with this attentive and hopeful perspective that the teenagers of the Padre Pio Community Center (CCA) led a remarkable moment of active citizenship.

During a visit to the Pirituba/Jaraguá Subprefecture, the young people had the opportunity to speak directly with the subprefect, Marcos Antônio Zerbini. More than just an institutional visit, the meeting was a true exercise in social participation and the building of civic awareness.

Youth that observes, analyzes, and proposes.

Even before the visit, the teenagers carried out a detailed mapping of the region where they live. With photographic records and practical observations, they identified points that need improvement, raising real issues in the territory.

This initiative demonstrates something essential: when young people are encouraged, they become agents of change. They not only recognize the challenges, but also seek solutions and spaces for dialogue.

Active citizenship: learning by doing

The meeting with the sub-prefecture allowed these teenagers to share their ideas, present their demands, and actively participate in a conversation about the future of their own neighborhood.

This experience goes far beyond theoretical learning. It involves human, social, and also spiritual formation, as it awakens a sense of responsibility for the common good—a value deeply rooted in the social doctrine of the Church.

As the Gospel reminds us: “"You are the light of the world"” (Mt 5:14). By taking a stand, these young people illuminate paths and inspire transformation.

The role of the Padre Pio Community Center in the formation of young people.

The Padre Pio Community Center, promoted by the Alliance of Mercy, is a welcoming and holistic development space for children and adolescents in situations of social vulnerability.

Through socio-educational activities, constant monitoring, and the strengthening of bonds, the project contributes to forming more conscious, proactive young people, prepared to build a fairer future.

There, each child is encouraged to discover their worth, develop their talents, and understand that they can be an agent of change in society.

Support this transformation.

Developing young leaders requires investment, dedication, and ongoing support. Every action taken is only possible thanks to the generosity of people who believe in this mission.
