SASF Centro Maria Paola participates in the 4th Virada ODS with educational and sustainable workshops

On June 6, the Family Social Assistance and Basic Social Protection Service (SASF) Centro Maria Paola, from the Alliance of Mercy, participated in the 4th edition of Virada ODS, an event held by the City of São Paulo at Praça das Artes, in Vale do Anhangabaú. The event focused on raising awareness about the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and featured fun workshops that addressed topics such as conscious consumption, reusing materials and sustainable practices.

During the event, the SASF stand was located in the space of the Municipal Secretariat for Assistance and Social Development dedicated to SDG 1 – No Poverty. Two main workshops were offered: building cars with PET bottles and planting seeds to create the “Mr. Canary Head” doll. The activities, initially aimed at 40 children, attracted a greater demand than expected and also received visitors interested in learning about the work of the service.

The workshop with PET bottles sought to encourage the reuse of waste, raising awareness about the importance of the circular economy and reducing waste. The planting of canary seed reinforced practices linked to sustainable agriculture, preservation of natural resources and possibilities for generating income.

The workshops were led by a team of SASF professionals. The activities used simple and creative methodologies to show that everyday actions can contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals, especially in combating poverty and building more conscious and resilient communities.

Virada ODS is one of the largest municipal initiatives in the world aimed at publicizing and engaging the population in relation to the UN's 2030 Agenda. The proposal is to make the SDGs better known to society through cultural and educational activities and public debates, with a focus on citizen participation and strengthening sustainable practices.

With 17 objectives and 169 goals, the 2030 Agenda seeks to promote sustainable development in several areas, such as education, health, fighting hunger, social justice, environmental preservation, gender equality, job creation and promoting peace.

The work of SASF

SASF Centro Maria Paola is located in the Jaraguá neighborhood, in the northern part of São Paulo. The service is provided by Aliança de Misericórdia and its main mission is to strengthen the protective role of families through home visits, socio-educational workshops, actions with the elderly and people with disabilities, in addition to monitoring children, adolescents and caregivers.

The multidisciplinary team, comprised of a social worker, a pedagogue, a psychologist, a socio-educational counselor and an operational agent, works directly in the area, promoting coexistence actions and supporting the autonomy of families in situations of social vulnerability. Participation in Virada ODS is one way to integrate local work with global sustainable development agendas, bringing the population closer to practices that promote citizenship, protection and social transformation.
