Hunger has a Face! feed them yourself

When we think of HUNGER, the image of someone with a thin and weak body immediately comes to mind, often distant, but hunger is much closer to us than we can imagine.

In our neighborhood, in our city, in our country... Brazil has around 125 million people with malnutrition problems, that is, at least 15% of our population is hungry.

According to United Nations (UN), world hunger underwent a dramatic worsening in 2020, a moment related to the consequences of COVID-19. although the impact of the pandemic has not yet been fully mapped, the report “The State of Food and Nutrition Insecurity in the World (SOFI)” estimates that about a tenth of the global population – up to 811 million people – was undernourished in 2021. The numbers suggest it will take a major effort for the world to honor its pledge to end hunger by 2030.

This report, together with other data, warns us that the food security of millions of people – including that of children – is at stake, at a critical juncture, threatening their lives.

Furthermore, hunger generates other hungers: hunger for dignity, belonging and justice. Many people are without purchasing power, immersed in great suffering of all kinds, whether psychological, family and material destruction, even the situation of death itself.

HOW TO OVERCOME?

Unfortunately the data are alarming, a sad reality for millions of people who need our help, but what can we do to help reduce the hunger situation in the world?

Well, here comes our capacity for altruism, that is, yours and our capacity to love with concrete actions, giving the utmost importance to this issue.

Concretely, you and I will not be able to end hunger in Brazil and the world today, but we can do our part to reduce the problem and help those around us.

How beautiful it would be if everyone did a little to help those close to them, because the world would certainly be a better place.

Each one of us is called to make a difference, each one can do something, we cannot fall into the temptation of isolating ourselves, or remain indifferent, as spectators in the face of the death and suffering around us.

Together we can do more, together we can get out of the cycle of selfishness and really help those in need, but for that we need ACT NOW AND CONTINUOUSLY!
