This month of May, Aliança de Misericórdia intensifies its awareness-raising actions with the campaign “Orange May”, which aims to combat the abuse and sexual exploitation of children and adolescents. Through activities promoted by the Centers for Children and Adolescents (CCAs), we seek to alert society about the importance of protecting young people and creating a safe environment for their development.
At CCA São Domingos Sávio (@oratoriosaodomingos), the campaign includes conversation circles, stories and songs. The second week of activities was marked by a march in the streets of the Campos Elíseos neighborhood, which highlighted the importance of child and adolescent protection, reinforcing that this is a collective responsibility.
The CCA Vila Cuore (@ccavilacuore) carried out three significant actions during the month. In partnership with SASF, a theater play was staged for children. The space also hosted a lecture with members of the protection network. Furthermore, a march at the Taipas bandstand brought together services from the region to raise awareness about Orange May.
At CCA Padre Pio (@cca.padrepio), internal activities included conversation circles, poster-making and the “touch traffic light” dynamic, which helped children understand the limits of physical contact. These actions are essential to educate and empower young people about their rights and how to identify risk situations.
National Day to Combat Abuse and Sexual Exploitation of Children is celebrated on May 18th. The #maiolaranja campaign seeks to give visibility to this serious issue, promoting dialogue and prevention actions. Alarming data reveal that every hour, three children are abused in Brazil, and annually, 500,000 children and adolescents are sexually exploited. These numbers underestimate the reality, as only 7.5% of cases are reported.
PROJECT
Maintained by Aliança de Misericórdia, the CCAs are reference spaces for socio-educational actions, aimed at children aged 6 to 11 and adolescents aged 12 to 14, who live in situations of extreme social vulnerability. In addition to offering activities after school, they promote the strengthening of family and social bonds, providing a safe environment for the cultural and personal development of participants.
